The value of the information you find on the internet Essay Example for Free

The value of the information you find on the internet Essay You are asking some very good questions. I often wondered the same before I learned about this subject. I would be glad to answer your questions and tell you what they all mean. First, you ask ‘How to assess the value of the information you find on the internet’? Well, there are many ways to assess the information you find on the internet. The first of many ways that I use to assess this information is to check the author information, meaning is the author trustworthy. To do this I often will see if the author has background in the subject that I am researching. I think that by doing this the information written by those who do not have any experience in the subject will not be on my radar. This also allows you to determine whether or not an author is authentic. Another important thing to check to see if information is reliable is to check the date, checking the date will help you determine if the information is up-to-date and if it has been updated recently. I think that by making sure the information is not outdated will help the credibility of this information. thing to check to see if information is reliable is to check the date, checking the date will help you determine if the information is up-to-date and if it has been updated recently. I think that by making sure the information is not outdated will help the credibility of this information. Another thing you would need to check is the website dependable. When I say ‘dependable’ I mean is the website easily edited by others who do not have any experience in the field? Has this information edited recently, and by whom? When using the internet you must be cautious of the information you read because some information could be false. You also ask about the ‘digital divide’ and what it means. The best way I can describe it is the divide between people who are up to date with all of the technological advances and those who are not. The people who are up-to-date with all of the technology advances have many ways to access all volumes of modern media though the internet. Whether it is though the use of a smart phone or the use of a computer or another type of technical device, whereas the people who do not have access to these types of media, people who rely on more traditional media such as, newspapers, books, and magazines would be on the opposite side of the digital divide. To bridge the digital divide all people would have to be able to access all versions of mass media. Meaning everyone would need to have to have equal  access to the internet. By that I mean that everyone should have access to the internet. Whether at home or otherwise would be keeping everyone in the technological world would definitely help Bridge the gap in the digital age.

The Concept of the Sublime In Relation to America Essay examples -- Ph

The Concept of the Sublime In Relation to America The eighteenth and nineteenth centuries witnessed a revival of the concept of the Sublime. The Sublime, as a notion, first reached English theorists by way of Nicholas Boileau-Desprà ©aux’s translation of the Greek text attributed to Longinus titled â€Å"On the Sublime,† which discussed the Sublime within writing. The work categorized sublimity as raising men â€Å"almost to the intellectual greatness of God† (Longinus, 76). Once raised to extreme intellectual heights the authors were then able to raise others to the limits of their being. In short, â€Å"the effect of the Sublime is â€Å"transport† (ekstasis) - it is a quality of a passage which â€Å"shatters the hearer’s composure,†Ã¢â‚¬ (Abrams, 308) due to the heightened ability of the writer. Longinus’ concept of the Sublime reached further fruition when discussed in Edmund Burke’s Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of Our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful and I mmanuel Kant’s Critique of Judgment, as well as in works by Dennis, Addison, Hume and poets Wordsworth, Thomson, and Mallet who attempted to clarify and diversify the concept. America, a land bubbling over with sublime images, added real-world value to the discussion; as such, the literature, philosophy and art during America’s exploration of itself focused on the image of the sublime as a means of breaking from the past, of discerning power and of forging a new identity. The Sublime is an aesthetic concept that deals with the force of a perception. For Edmund Burke, who brought the Sublime from â€Å"the level of judgment as David Hume had done†¦.[to the] level of sensibility† (Sertoli), the Sublime emerged from contemplation of â€Å"whatever is fitted in any sort to excite the i... ...ry_theory/entries/british_theory_and_criticism-_2.html Rodgers, David. Personal Development Plan Personal Development Plan: Guidance notes â€Å"Personal development planning enables individuals to take charge of their own learning. Learning becomes a proactive as well as reactive process, designed and prioritised to support immediate development needs as well as longer term ambitions†[1] A Personal Development Plan (PDP) enables learners to identify key areas of learning and development activity that will enable them to either acquire new or develop existing skills and behavioural attributes for the following purposes: enhance performance in their current role †¢ address anticipated changes in their current role †¢ address career aspirations towards a future role Prior to completing the Personal Development Plan (scroll down to next page(s) for a template to complete), the learner should undertake a skills analysis activity to determine their learning and development needs and identify development objectives to meet those needs. View the following links for too ls to help you do this: http://www. admin. cam. ac. uk/offices/hr/cppd/career/planning/#now We recommend that the personal development planning process should be undertaken initially by the learner followed by discussion and agreement with their manager. It is recommended that this process should take place annually and ideally should form part of the Staff Development and Review (Appraisal) process. However, it can be equally valuable when undertaken as a stand-alone activity. The personal development planning process should ideally begin at the point at which the learner is new to their role and undertaking their induction. The process can then continue throughout their employment at the University. Personal Development Plan: Key to terminology used in template Development Objectives are objectives that you have identified to enable you to meet the learning and development needs identified at the skills analysis stage Priority identifies whether your development objective is: †¢ critical to your current role †¢ beneficial but non-critical to your current role †¢ critical to your progressing in to future role †¢ beneficial but non-critical to progressing in to future role Activities can constitute any learning or development activity that will enable you to achieve your development ojectives e. . formal training, on-the-job training, work-shadowing another colleague etc. Support/Resources describe what you need to help you achieve your development objectives. Typically this would involve support from your manager, department or colleague to enable you to undertake a learning or development activity such as allowing you time away from your role or funding from your department. Target and Actual dates state when you intend to achieve your development objectives followed by the date you actually achieve them. Data in these columns is particularly useful when you review your PDP as it will enable you to identify any factors that may have prevented you from achieving your development objectives on the target date and build in contingencies to prevent this from occurring in the future. Review date states when you will review progress on your Personal Development Plan. Assuming that you undergo the personal development process annually, we recommend that you review your PDP every six months therefore enabling you to: †¢ Assess your progress †¢ Reflect on your learning Identify whether your development objectives need to be amended †¢ Identify factors that may have prevented you from achieving your development objectives †¢ Build in contingencies to enable you (where possible) to meet your agreed target date in the future Personal Development Plan: Template |What are my development |Priority |What activities do I need to undertake to |What support/resources do I need to ach ieve my |Target date for achieving my |Actual date of achieving my | |objectives? | |achieve my objectives? objectives |objectives |objectives | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |Review Date: | | ———————– [1] AUA Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice (Higher Education Administration and Management (OUVA) Personal development Plan Target dates for review and completion.
